Photo of the Day: May 16th

Up the street from my office in Amberley Village is French park. This stately home and the surrounding 275 acres was bequeathed to the City of Cincinnati in 1943 by Herbert Greer French.
According to the Hamilton County Park District, a tornado riped through the park in 1969, destroying over 540 trees. Not sure how old this bent tree is, but I'm going to guess at least 50 years old.

Photo of the Day: May13th

Not the most flattering image of daughter No. 1, but hey, she's concentrating on my cell phone at the moment. The girls and I (less mom) are heading to the frame shop to have my wedding license framed nicely for Mother's Day. I almost threw it away last year! We also stopped at Big Lots and grabbed some funny Mom's day cards.

Photo of the Day: May 10th

Good Ol Courage is FINALLY getting used to the idea of sticking his head out the car window. He likes to do it, just doesn't know it yet. As you can see, he's slowly discovering this new joy one whisker at a time!

My Spring Grades!!

WOOHOO! Two classes, two "As". Beat that, suckah! Hey, I know it's only two classes, but I still gotta work full time! Click on the image to get a better view of those "AAs".
Maybe I'll post a photo tomorrow, but for now, it's all about the As!

Photo of the Day: May 8th

Sorry, no posts for a few days.

Ok, so just when you thought this place could not get any greener...behold! And with the green comes huge amounts of shade which is great for the hostas we planted this spring. We have one small spot in the front right corner of the yard that gets a decent amount of sunshine, and I can usually get a decent crop of tomatoes if the deer don't find them first! Last summer, almost every tomato had teeth marks in them.

Photo of the Day: May 4th

Yep...this is about as exciting as images get! Just a car in the parking lot at work. And while this car looks innocent enough, the interior is trashed as is most of the body.
Anyway, last day o classes is today. All I need to do is get my final writing portfolio to the teacher, and i should score an "A". Suuwheeet!

Photo of the Day: May 2nd

Protecting us from harm at all hours, Courage peruses the back yard as Maura cuts the grass. I think one of these days he's going to leap from that wall if something tempting enough, like a squirrel, shows up!

Photo of the Day: May 1st

Dad (me) and daughter No. 2 pose for a quick photo, taken by her sister. As you can see, the woods is in full green and the yard looks great. I ordered 4 yards of mulch this weekend and am about 1/2 done.
I've been on the morel mushroom hunting kick for some reason, haven't found anything yet, but I'm determined to find at least one before the season ends in mid May.

It's off to Camp!

As you can see, Daughter No. 1 is psyched about heading out to camp. She's loaded down with with sleeping bag, suitcase, magnifying glass, flashlight, etc. The 5th graders left at 8:00am. We are going to miss her!

Photo of the Day: April 26th

Daughter No. 1 is off to Camp this morning with the 5th graders and will be absent for the next for three days. She's totally excited, but I think her sister, seen here, is a little distraught!

Green has overtaken our street, and it looks awesome! Most of the flowering trees have lost their bounty, but our Dogwood squeezed out a few flowers this year!

Photo of the Day: April 22nd

After a day of total rain in Lexington, we are glad to be home! We brought home a win of $4! Woohoo! Today, the weathe was perfect! The girls got new bikes today and just had to show them off for the camera.

Photo of the Day:April 20th

Driving home, I stopped by an old church in Indian Hill to shoot a few photos. Not sure of the history surrounding this neat place, but the light was great.
Tomorrow, it's off to Keenland for a litle horse betting!

Photo of the Day: April 18th

Took the whole family to the Reds game this eve. We all had a great time even though the Reds lost to Florida 10-6.

Photo of the Day: April 17th

Yes, I know I'm 2 days behind on photos, but I'm trying to catch up today. See...it is getting greener around here! Our grass is even growing in those tough to reach spots.

Photo of the Day: April 15th

Today was a beautiful, warm day as you can see. The girls couldn't resist having a mini pool party on the driveway, and invited several neighbors to the casual event. Courage was a good sport an fulfilled his role of "Watch Dog" for the duration of the party. The gala was hosted and catered by the dad!

Photo of the Day: April 14th

Our house is surrounded by tons of trees, and every once in a while, we have the honor of sharing our home with the local wildlife. Daughter No. 2 saw this Pileated Woodpecker (or is that the presumed extinct Ivory Billed?) while bringing in the garbage cans. My camera lens does not do well in zoom mode, but there he is in all his glory!
See you again!

This photo was taken during lunch in French Park, Amberley Village. Nice warm day today!

Photo(s) of the Day: April 11th

A typical day at the house! My wife loves wearing these glasses and hat. In fact, she would wear them all day if she could, but then she'd wind up single and alone!
Daughter No. 1 is quite amused at the entire scenario.
Anyway, we wanted to know what all the thrills were about her hat and glasses, so we all tried them on!

Photo of the Day: April 10th

A beautiful spring day in Cincinnati; temprature close to 70º! This is daughter No.2 with a buddy getting ready to go down a minature roller coaster. I swear, the street is getting much greener these days. I'll post another photo of the house by Saturday the 15th (Tax Day, though it's not due till the 17th)

Photo of the day" April 7th

Today was a great spring day! And while I spent a majority of the day in front of my computer screen(yuck), it was 70 plus degrees, thunderstorms, lightning, tornados, the whole bit! This was the view around 4:00 EST today as the clouds rolled in overtaking the blue. It's still raining as I post this at 8:00pm.

Good night, and good luck!

Photo of the Day: April 6th

OK, so getting green is taking a lot longer than I was hoping. This was taken this morning, and while there is definitely more green than last time, the trees are not doing their part! There's Courage waiting for me to pass! Speaking of Chessies, on the way to work I saw this huge, chisled Chessie head enjoying a ride in the car. Courage is chicken to stick his head out...maybe he needs more encouragement.
Later...

Photo of the Day: April 5th

Sorry, took a couple days off this week!
Daughter No. 1 had her Disney Themed musical last night. Here she is palying the role of "Bert" the chimney sweep in a Mary Poppins theme. It was quite good!
I'll try and post a photo for today a bit later...

Photo of the Day: April 1st

Took a trip to the Cincinnati Nature Venter with grandma and the girls today. The daffodils are slowly making their debut, but the earlier snow seems to have slowed their appearance and dessimated many. Normally, this area is flooded with flowers but I did manage to find a few worthy of a photo! Next week they should be at their peak.
Daylight savings starts tomorrow!

Photo of the Day: March 31th

Daughter No. 2 is a smart, but goofy kid with a great sense of humor, as you can see. This her at the electronic piano just after breakfast.

No Photo of the Day!

Sorry...nothing today.

Photo of the Day: March 29th

I dropped Daughter No. 2 off at school early this morning for an extra choir practice. She's happy! Woo Hoo! Spring is slowly creeping into the Cincinnati area, finally, and tomorrow is supposed to be close to 70 degrees!

Photo of the Day: March 28th

Waiting for the light to change is never fun, but on the way home, I glanced up and noticed these two birds (I think they are Mourning Doves) on a wire through my sunroof. Click...picture of the day!

Another shot from the car on the way to work. OK, no more shots from the car unless it's really cool!
Anyway, this is on I-71 just before the Norwood Lateral exit.

This morning I ran in the Heart Mini Marathon in Cincinnati. Can you see me? I'm somewhere in the back, the one with the hat on! Final time for this 15K was 1:17:21. The winner did it in about 49 minutes!

The tallest building in Cincinnati is the Carew Tower. After registering for the Heart Mini Marathon which takes place tomorrow AM, we took an elevator ride to the observation deck of this historic building. My daughters leaped from the observation deck onto the PNC tower to pose. They are so brave and I was quite proud! Fearless!

Photo of the Day: March 24th

I pass this field on the way to work every morning while heading down Clough Pike. This time of year, the grass is golden and really brightens up the morning when the sun hits it. I had to take the shot while driving, hence the slight blur. The shot is cropped pretty tight and tweaked in photoshop. Here is the original showing the cropped area...

Photo of the Day: March 23rd

Sorry, no photo from today. Time just slipped away. This photo was taken last summer at our family cottage in Cedarville, Michigan, about 11 hours north of Cincinnati. In fact, this was the last evening shot I took before we headed back home.

Wednesday, March 22, 2006

Photo of the Day: March 22nd

Like the tree photo from the other day, I took this shot from the car on the way home. I wasn't sure what it looked like when I took it, and after I snapped the shutter the camera battery went dead. This is the result. Kind of an eerie, though calm photo I think. Anyway, the battery is now charging as we speak.
Regarding the camera I use, it's a Canon EOS 10D digital which is really nice. I've gotten in the habit of keeping it with me daily, which is exactly what I was hoping to accomplish with this photo of the day thing. I process the images in Potoshop CS2.
School update: I met with my advisor today concerning my plan of action. to get a BFA in Graphic Design, I'm going to have to take some classes during the work day. Not sure how I'm going to pull that off, but I will cross that bridge at a later date. In the mean time, I will focus on completing requirements that are available in the evening.
Till next time...

Photo of the Day: March 21st

Obviously, my post from March 14th was a little optimistic. 2-4 inches of snow fell this morning, closing school and whacking out traffic. Kind of pretty, though! Maybe by April we'll have that much anticipated green.

Photo of the Day: March 20th

Ahh yes, once again the joys of eating breakfast on another fun-filled morning before school! Daughter No.2 is finishing up a hearty beakfast of waffles before heading out the door. Today is her first day of testing for potentially gifted students.
Daughter No. 1 has already completed these tests and is attending ELO classes for reading.

Photo of the Day: March 19th

I love this shot! Daughter No. 1 is an animal lover. Horses, dogs, whatever. I hope someday she will live on a farm, work as a vet and write books.

March 18, 2006

Unfortunately, I have no photo for today either! Today, Saturday, I took the girls to the local school carnival. After droping them off, I went Geocaching for a little while. found two caches with Courage then picked up the kids.

Photo from March 16th

No photo for today...I forgot my camera this morning and had class this eve. This is from a couple days ago. A flattering photo of my wife having breakfast with Daughter No. 1 totally amazed!

Got some bad news from Cleveland this afternoon; but hey, let's focus on what lies ahead and not on the things we can't control; there will be other opportunities.

Just an interesting shadow behind our building. Kind of creepy back there! Just to the left is the train track from the other day.

Photo of the Day: March 14th

We live on a beautiful, secluded street that is truly awesome once the leaves and flowers make their debut. Spring is quickly approaching, so in about 1 week or so, all the brown will be gone (except for the mud that was once grass!).

Photo of the Day: March 13th

Finally, 70 degrees and a little spurt of sunshine! This was taken at 4:00 pm EST in my parking lot, and while not the most exciting shot in the world, the sky speaks volumes!

Photo of the Day: March 12th

Another cloudy, rainy day in the midwest, but quite warm (67) for this time of year. Not much going on today.

Photo of the Day: March 11th

Today, though expected to be warm, turned out to be rainy and chilly. I went for a 5 mile run with some friends at 7:30 (no rain yet), then took the kids to Frisch's for breakfast. Mom was working today. Just a goofy photo collage.

Friday, March 10

This is my son, Courage. I took this photo after he had just retrieved the morning paper and was patiently waiting for breakfast. Courage is a rescued Chesapeake Bay Retriever who came to us with a ton of baggage, but after 2+ years, the kinks in his behavior are finally working themselves out!
Good dog!

March 9th

This is the traintrack behind my office where i work as a graphic designer. My building is literally 10 yards from here. The town is Reading, Ohio and this particular area is somewhat run down with lots of closed businesses. See you tomorrow. Survivor is on!

Photos for March 8th

Todays photos give a brief chronology of our morning. Dog gets paper, breakfast served, kids get ready for school, we go our separate ways and start the day. I am going to be spending a better part of the day waiting on a call...more about that later.

Daughter No. 1 getting ready to start the day...and no, it's not always happy faces and laughter!!

Our Chessie surveying the neighborhood... "Give me something to chase!" I'm willing to bet that's what he's thinking

Spring Break This Week

NO SCHOOL THIS WEEK!

I'd like to start something new called "Picture of the Day." The plan here is to force me to get out the camera and take a photo of something cool on a daily basis. This will also force me to update this blog regularly!
Tonights photo...since it was a cold, rainy evening, a fire in the fireplace seemed appropriate! Here it is! 100% Cincinnati Ash! Time: 7:24pm est.

2 Months Into the School Year

2 Months have passed since I returned to the college classroom, and I love it! While Music Appreciation can get a bit boring, it is still interesting and I am doing very well. The only day of hell was having to do a brief presentation about a music selection we heard on the local classical radio station...in front of the entire class. Scared shitless, I tell you but I made it through without passing out!
The Advanced Writing class is also going extremely well. This class has been an eye-opener for me in that it causes me to think more about what I'm putting on paper before I start. So far, so good!

Week 1 is over!

Working full time and going to night school 3 evenings a week is not only torturous, but is alienating me from my family. The dog now thinks I'm an intruder! Fortunately, this is going to change...

Just as I suspected...the photography class was WAY TOO BASIC. I knew I was gong to have a problem when the instructor began pointing out the various components of the camera. I am absolutly certain boredom would have prompted me to do something drastic like stand up and scream, “It’s a freaking lens, for God’s sake! Holy crap...let's move on!” So, taking the advice of others, I dropped Ultra-Basic Photography (2 days a week) and enrolled in a class that will provide a lifetime benefit, Advanced College Writing. This ain't going to come easy, but it will certianly keep me from going nuts! Best of all, it's only once a week!

Life just keeps gettin’ better, eh?

Tuesday, January 10, 2006

And so it begins...

Spent the weekend in Providence, Rhode Island for my brother's wedding. Pretty neet town, Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design are there...never had the grades for either one :o)!
Anyway, Music Appreciation 100 started yesterday...nothing too tricky. In fact, it was quite an interesting class. I was not the oldest one there which made me feel a whole lot more comfortable! It's basically a brief history of music from the medieval (400 ad) to the contemporary (present). One of our assignments is to write 3 music reviews during the duration of the course...1 symphony, 1 chamber, and 1 jazz. 14 more weeks to go for the spring semester.
Photography starts this evening from 6-8:30 pm and am hoping it is not too basic. That's all for now.
